Program Duration & Degree

This program features a schooling duration of 3-7 years and grants a Bachelor of Engineering degree upon completion.


Program Highlights

As one of the first provincial key majors in Yunnan Province, this program is a national characteristic major supported by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance, a pilot of the National Outstanding Engineer Education and Training Program, and nationally accredited for engineering education, possessing CCAR-147 qualification issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of China. After completing CCAR-147 training, graduates can earn three credentials upon graduation: a graduation certificate, a bachelor’s degree certificate, and an aircraft maintenance personnel license.


Training Objectives

Following the training philosophy of “professional theories + engineering practice + innovation and market competitiveness”, the program builds on solid fundamental theories and knowledge of mechanical engineering, and aims to cultivate high-quality interdisciplinary senior engineering and managerial talents with innovative spirit, teamwork ability and R&D capabilities, ready to adapt to the future development of civil aviation and manufacturing industries both at home and abroad.


Core Courses

Mechanical Design, Fluid Mechanics and Aerodynamics, Aviation Materials and Processes, Fundamentals of Avionics Technology, Aircraft Structures and Systems, Principles and Structures of Aero-Engines, Civil Aviation Maintenance Regulations and Human Factors.


Career Prospects

Graduates can engage in aircraft maintenance and management work at airlines, airports, aircraft manufacturers, aircraft maintenance enterprises and service enterprises. They may also take up roles in research and development, teaching and management in government authorities, research institutions, universities and other public and private organizations. The employment rate of the first cohort of graduates in 2020 reached 95.7%.


Traffic and Transportation

Program Duration & Degree

This program features a schooling duration of 3-7 years and grants a Bachelor of Engineering degree upon completion.


Program Highlights

The faculty hosting this program owns two provincial-level experimental centers and is the sixth institution nationwide to obtain CCAR-65 qualification approval.


Training Objectives

The program cultivates interdisciplinary senior engineering, technical and managerial talents with solid theoretical foundations, extensive professional knowledge and sound humanistic literacy. Graduates meet the modernized, international and standardized requirements of the civil aviation industry, master basic theories, professional expertise and practical skills required for civil aviation transportation management positions, and with strong practical competence and innovative capacity.


Core Courses

Air Traffic System Optimization and Management, Aircraft Performance Engineering, Airspace Planning, Airline Operations Management, Flight Planning, On-site Operations Management, Airport Tower and Procedural Control.


Career Prospects

Graduates can engage in flight operations management and airport on-site operations management at airlines and airports. They may also take up roles in R&D, teaching and management in government authorities, research institutions, universities and other public and private organizations. The employment rate of the first cohort of graduates in 2020 reached 93.6%.



Aircraft Control and Information Engineering

Program Highlights

Aircraft Control and Information Engineering is one of the major specialized directions of Aeronautical and Astronautical Science and Technology. Established to meet the urgent and emerging talent demand in the field of aircraft control and information for national aerospace development, especially in Yunnan Province, the program is well aligned with the development strategies and industrial priorities under the new economic context.


Training Objectives

The program fosters senior engineering and technical talents in aircraft control and information with innovative awareness and a strong sense of social responsibility. Centering on aircraft as the main research object and grounded in control science and information science, it cultivates specialized technical professionals for the development of civil aviation and smart aviation in Yunnan, and provides talent support for China’s low-altitude airspace opening-up strategy. Focusing on the aviation information technology sector in Yunnan and taking aircraft informatization as the foundation, the program advances the informatization construction of airlines and airports, while nurturing engineering talents competent in other fields of control and information technology.

Aerospace Introduction, Aerodynamics, Aircraft Overall Design, Aircraft Guidance and Control, Signals and Systems, Navigation Principles and Systems, Principles of Automatic Control, Microcomputer Principles and Interface Technology.


Career Prospects

Graduates can engage in design, R&D and management roles at airlines, civil aviation enterprises, airports, information and control technology firms, and service enterprises. They may also pursue careers in scientific research, teaching and management in government institutions, research institutes, universities and other public and private organizations.


Flight Technology


Program Duration & Degree

This program features a schooling duration of 3-7 years and grants a Bachelor of Engineering degree upon completion.


Program Highlights

Tailored to the development needs of civil aviation across China and the Southwest region, the program gives full play to the disciplinary advantages of Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST), providing significant intellectual, technical and cultural support for Yunnan’s strategy of building a provincial major civil aviation hub. The standard duration of study is four years, adopting a “2+2” training model. Students spend the first 2 years studying aviation theories at KUST, and the subsequent two years receiving flight training at a designated aviation school. Qualified graduates will be awarded a graduation certificate, a bachelor’s degree certificate, and a civil aircraft pilot license.


Training Objectives

Focused on engineering-based technical education, this program prepares well-rounded professionals for civil aviation flight roles. Students develop the political awareness, mental resilience and physical fitness essential for a career as a civil aviation pilot. They gain systematic command of foundational theories, practical expertise and operational skills in civil aircraft flight, achieve English competency compliant with ICAO standards, and build fundamental abilities to apply and oversee modern civil aviation flight technologies. Upon graduation, they are fully qualified to serve as aircraft pilots in commercial air transport operations.

Career Prospects

The program adopts an order-tailored training model. Partner airlines entrust KUST to recruit and train Flight Technology students. With a training agreement signed upon enrollment, students are guaranteed employment with the respective partner airline upon successful graduation.

Spring Airlines serves as the partnered airline for the 2025 intake.
